Further Information:

A panel on the memorial to members of the 1st Battalion who died during the Battle of Elandslaagte on the 21st October 1899.  The Memorial is located on the battlefield.  This panel commemorates the officer and 5 soldiers who died of wounds and are buried elsewhere.

They are:

Lieutenant C. G. Danks, Lance Corporal 3894 J. Poyser, Lance Corporal 4132 J. Delaney, Private 4616 E. Dewhurst, Private 4187 J. Heath and Private 2190 C. Williams.

Including these 6, 14 members of the battalion were killed at Elandslaagte.  They 8 buried with the memorial can be seen at. MR03972 / MRP/12/428.
